In Germany, the forest is many things: a place of longing and an alternative to urban life, a financial resource, a patriotically charged symbol, a place for leisure and recreation, an essential ecosystem. What would it be like to have a date with this forest? Now in times of climate crisis. Just you and the forest, in the middle of the city. Maybe it will be romantic, maybe you’ll just have a good time, maybe you’ll realise that it’s not really a good fit after all.
DATING A FOREST invites you to make new connections with the forest and grow together. And, as in a good rapprochement, to clear up misconceptions. DATING A FOREST puts theories of post-anthropocentric sociology into practice – with experts in microbiology, ecosexuality, forest science and nature writing. How can we approach the forest in such a way that we take it seriously as a partner?
You can decide for yourself whether the date turns into something more.

PINSKER+BERNHARDT are Janna Pinsker and Wicki Bernhardt. Founded at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, the duo combines the lines of post-dramatic theatre, choreography and performance for a young and intergenerational audience. The formal focus of their work is to project ideas about the human body and collective biographies into spatial arrangements and objects. With an absurd-fragmentary and playful-confrontational aesthetic, they deal with themes such as shame, physical change and the power of couple relationships. With their work FAMILY CREATURES, they won the FAUST Prize in the Performers for Young Audiences category in 2023.

Der Wald ist in Deutschland vieles: Sehnsuchtsort und Gegenentwurf zum urbanen Leben, finanzielle Ressource, patriotisch aufgeladenes Symbol, Freizeit- und Erholungsort, essentielles Ökosystem. Wie wäre es, mit diesem Wald ein Date zu haben? Jetzt in Zeiten der Klimakrise. Nur du und Wald, mitten in der Stadt. Vielleicht wird es romantisch, vielleicht habt ihr einfach nur eine gute Zeit, vielleicht merkt ihr, dass es doch nicht so wirklich passt.
DATING A FOREST lädt dazu ein, mit Wald neue Verbindungen einzugehen und miteinander zu verwachsen. Und wie in einer guten Annäherung mit falschen Vorstellungen aufzuräumen. DATING A FOREST überführt Theorien der post-anthropozentrischen Soziologie in die Praxis – mit Expert*innen für Mikrobiologie, Ökosexualität, Forstwissenschaft und Nature Writing. Wie könnte man Wald so begegnen, dass man ihn als Partner*in ernst nimmt?

PINSKER+BERNHARDT sind Janna Pinsker und Wicki Bernhardt. Am Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft in Gießen gegründet, verbindet das Duo die Linien von postdramatischem Theater, Choreografie und Performance für ein junges und generationsübergreifendes Publikum. Formaler Schwerpunkt ihrer Arbeit ist es, Ideen zum menschlichen Körper und kollektiven Biographien in räumliche Anordnungen und Objekte zu projizieren. Mit einer absurd-fragmentarischen und spielerisch-konfrontativen Ästhetik verhandeln sie dabei Themen wie Scham, körperliche Veränderung oder die Macht von Paarbeziehungen. Mit ihrer Arbeit FAMILY CREATURES gewannen sie 2023 den FAUST-Preis in der Kategorie Darsteller:in für junges Publikum.
